De Arduino Uno is een microcontrolleraan, gebaseerd op de ATmega328. Het bord bevat alles wat nodig is om met deze microcontroller te ontwikkelen. U kunt het eenvoudig aansluiten op een pc via een micro-USB-kabel, of het van stroom voorzien met een externe voeding of batterij en direct beginnen.

De Arduino Uno onderscheidt zich van alle voorgaande modellen doordat het geen USB/serieel-converterchip van FTDI gebruikt. In plaats daarvan maakt het gebruik van een ATmega16U2, die geprogrammeerd is als een USB/serieel-converter.
